The 10 best travel apps for London

When traveling I can’t help but explore the app store also. Lots of times this leads to great finds, from coffee places to hidden street art. In London, a city that’s insanely big, travel apps do make a difference. These are my favorites:

London Official Guide

A fairly simple but useful app from I like it for offline maps, bar recommendations and other touristy things. Great to use as a first timer, helpful for everyone else.

Cost: free

Street art app

My favorite! Wherever you are, there’s street art, sometimes right in your face, other times well hidden and only accessible to those who know where to find it. Now you know as well, with this slick app, designed to discover street art all over the city. Just check it once in a while to see if you’re close to anything. The best thing? It comes with pictures as a little preview.

London’s Best Coffee

With so many places to choose from, getting coffee is no big deal. It’s great coffee you need this app for. Find the best coffee in town, recommend by locals and travelers. The app comes with maps, photo’s and reviews, and the best thing is: it all works offline. Oh bliss!

Cost: €1,99 – €2,99

Tube Deluxe

I hate nothing more than not understanding a metro system quick enough. Lucky for me, Tube Deluxe gives me that little bit of help I need during my underground adventures. The app comes with live updates, ideal travel connections and tube maps.

Cost: €0,99

ATM hunter

A very basic app that’ll give you exactly what you need: finding free cashpoints. Avoid paying for every transaction you make by using ATM hunter and you’ll save some extra money for shopping, coffee, sights and more coffee.

Cost:  free

Mini taxi

Getting scammed by taxi drivers in an international pet peeve. No more of that using the Addison Lee app, enabling you to use mini taxi’s all over town, within minutes. There’s no need for you to keep fumbling around with your cash, as this app lets you book and pay online.

Museum of London app

When visiting London, many people want the same: see the city in the old days. Now you can! Tap on one of the destinations or use GPS to locate a place near you. Hold your phone camera up to see the difference between the old and modern times.

Cost: free

Citymapper is somewhat like Tube Deluxe, only free. Works great on maps, live travel information and even a calorie counter.

Cost: free

Top table

If you need a dinner reservation asap, you will like Top Table. This app provides restaurants in all price ranges, mapped and ready to go. Search for your favorite kind of kitchen, insert a price range and there you go! The app also has reviews.

Craft beer revolution

A very important app! Track down London’s best bars who brew their own beer! A few taps on the screen and you’ll be sitting in a cozy pub, surrounded by your best friends (who like you a lot because  you have an awesome beer app.). Life is this simple sometimes.

These were my absolute favorites! Do you have an app I desperately need to try? Let me know!

Some great apps there, especially like the tube one. I visit London a couple of times a year and transport is the one thing that frazzles me a bit. Thanks for sharing!

You’re welcome, Heather! I never like public transport somewhere else, it confuses me. This app was indeed very helpful.

Great tips. The Tube Deluxe would have come in really hand when we were in London last December!

These are really great apps for London. Tube London and London Coffee Network are my personal favorite. Though you could have also added Santander Cycles.
